Women going through menopause are often at the peak of their careers and are firmly established in their professional lives. Symptoms such as hot flashes and concentration problems are stressful in the workplace and not infrequently lead affected women to reduce their workload or even leave the workforce early. In addition to the obvious strain on women, this development also exacerbates the shortage of skilled workers, which is additionally driven by demographic change. An open approach to menopausal symptoms and appropriate support measures in everyday working life could ensure that women enjoy their jobs and continue to pursue their career plans despite menopause.
The "MenoSupport" project has been running since October 2022. It is being conducted by the Berlin School of Economics and Law (HWR Berlin) and the Berlin University of Applied Sciences (HTW Berlin), and is funded by the Initiative for Applied Research Berlin (IFAF). The project group conducts a needs analysis and develops a health concept for women in menopause based on this analysis. In collaboration with experts from the fields of medicine, psychology and health management, concrete operational measures for companies are currently being developed. The project will run until September 2024, and the results will be publicly available.
